Durand’s 50th Anniversary

In 2022, Durand, Inc. celebrates 50 years of dedicated service in southern New Jersey. The organization traces its roots to the early 1970s, when Durand’s founder, Dr. Simone Durand Schulmann, heard a child’s cry and made it her life’s mission to support individuals with autism. The Sunny Day School she founded in 1972 would later grow into Durand, a groundbreaking, grassroots nonprofit.

Over the years, Durand has served countless individuals and families, evolving from a small day school for children into a multifaceted agency offering support, services, and advocacy for people with disabilities throughout the region.

All these years later, Dr. Durand’s response to a crying child lives on in everyone who makes Durand’s mission possible, from our staff to our board members to the individuals we serve.

As we celebrate this tremendous milestone—and look forward to many more years of service—we proudly reflect on 50 years of hard work, growth, and success.

Durand will be commemorating our half a century of service all year long. We have a variety of special events in the works for later this year, including employee service awards, an anniversary film, and the release of a rebranded 50th anniversary logo. Stay tuned for more exciting details.
